Consultation has concluded

Ask us your questions as we work through this project! We will install curbs, gutters, sidewalks, crosswalks, and street lighting along portions of the north side of Strathcona Road and the east side of Crystal Drive.

December 2021 Update: All works have been completed along Strathcona and substantial completion has been awarded to the contractor, Contour Concrete Ltd. Streetlight bases and conduit are complete. Poles are to be delivered in the coming months as a result of supply chain delays in manufacturing and shipping.

Thank you for your email. The Strathcona and Crystal sidewalk project is funded through the City’s capital works budget and are prioritized mainly based on proximity to elementary schools, among other considerations. The 2021 annual budget was allocated to the Strathcona project and unfortunately additional funds weren’t available for other connections on Clare, Killarney, Kent, Fairfield Island, or other locations in Chilliwack frequented by pedestrians. Clare Ave has been added for future consideration and will be prioritized among other requests throughout the City.
If you haven’t already, please visit the Active Transportation page on EngageChilliwack.com and fill out the Active Transportation survey as the City will be using information collected as a future blueprint for pedestrian facilities.

At mid-block locations, fire hydrants shall be located at the property line and between adjacent properties where possible. At this particular location, it is not possible due to clearances from property boundaries, utility pole, street lighting and sidewalk clearances.

Thank you for question. There have been some minor revisions since the public consultation. Based on resident feedback, the majority of sidewalk will continue along the edge of the roadway to maintain driveway space for existing residents; with the exception west of the school, and in front of the school, where parking pockets will remain. The City is working out final revisions with BC Hydro for the pole relocation and with the electrical contractor for the streetlighting locations. The City will share the drawings on this page in the near future once they are finalized.

Thank you for your question. The two poles in conflict with the sidewalk will be relocated further north within the right of way to accommodate the sidewalk. This will be completed as part of the sidewalk installation project.
