The City’s Trail Network Plan details a trail running beside Ford Creek, routed east/west along the top of the flood protection berm, located to the rear of properties on Coleraine Avenue. The trail is shown as trail #1 on the map.

Recently, the City began work to resurface a secondary, narrow trail, running east/west through the forested area, between Ford Creek and the flood protection berm. This secondary trail route is shown as trail #2. The purpose of this trail is to provide a more natural trail experience, while increasing backyard privacy for residents along the flood protection berm. This trail will remain narrow, approximately 1m in width, and no trees will be removed along this route.

Concerns have been received from local residents regarding the possibility of negative environmental impacts that this secondary trail work may create. In order to ensure that the trail work will not create a harmful alteration to riparian habitat, the City has engaged the services of an independent environmental consultant to assess the work plan and to provide professional guidance. The work plan will also be reviewed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) prior to any further work occurring.
